For the people, this time, I had a very clear idea of who the main man should be. I found a picture of Richard Armitage (sigh!) that looked like he was playing a consultant and I placed a picture of him looking brooding on my laptop for the entire year, (even whilst writing the next book. – What can I say, it was a great picture).
By My Side and hence The Summer We Loved, are set in a fictional town in England. It's within day trip distance from Birmingham, but set in a market town in the sticks. Adam’s apartment is based on a new shiny building they built near me a few years back and the hospital, is very much based on the ones where I’ve worked. The image for the main woman was a girl I saw working at the local Specsavers. I was there with my mum for her appointment and I just saw her and thought, yes, that’s exactly how I imagined Katy would look. I wish I’d had my camera with me. You may think that would have made me look slightly bizarre, pulling out a camera in the middle of the shop, but what happened later was far worse… I'll tell you more about that next week...
