But having seen his workmates dye their moustaches orange, my hubby became very excited at the thought of what he could do. So after a little discussion we decided that purple would be fab and very fitting for a Mauve-ember! Get it? So, we hurried out to town the very next day and brought 'Vivid Violet' designed for dark hair, to turn his moustache bright purple. Perfect!
That night just before we went up stairs to do the deed - the moustache! Keep it clean - and I suddenly had a spark of inspiration. Why didn't I dye my hair too? A sign of solidarity, if you like. But I have very long hair and the thought of watching for 3 or 4 years while my bright purple hair gradually grew out wasn't good, so maybe I should just do a streak? I thought. Or perhaps not. I'd still have to watch it grow out, wouldn't I ? And my hubby would get to shave his off after a few days.
Then I hit on an idea. Back when I was younger, a group called Berlin did a music video for 'Take My Breath Away', a hit from the film Top Gun and in it, the lead singer had the ends of her hair dyed purple (I think, maybe pink, but you get the point.) Hurrah! And in an unusual fit of rebelliousness, I went for it. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x21k2a_berlin-take-my-breath-away-top-gun_music
One T-shirt and a bathroom mat will never be the same again, but it was all in a good cause.
We held our breath, waited, rinsed and finished off the applications before waiting for it to dry... Tick, tock, tick, tock. It was so exciting!
I'll tell you.
Hubby's moustache looked, well, a little darker than usual and my hair...? Well, see for yourself. This is me with the ends of my hair dyed to match my
hubby, when his moustache looked completely normal.
Hubby even went back for a second go and still not a glimpse of purple. Won't be rushing to do that again. I look like road-kill.
And now hubby has shaved his moustache off and I'm left with hair that looks like it's been dipped in Ribena. Time to make an appointment at the hairdressers, I think. #badhairday
