The person I told you about last time, the REAL person, whose character made it into my book – yes, you've guessed it, that was in By My Side too. *sigh*
It was… Okay, here I go again. This is why I have copious amounts of scribbled notes… *rapidly skims through own book* Gloria! I knew that. Gloria was based on a nurse I used to work with when I spent 18 months in A&E. She used to keep us all in order and make us toast and cups of tea on weekend early mornings. She knew everything and was a no nonsense kind of woman. I could always picture her as an old fashioned matron. So, naming no names, although anyone who ever worked with me will know exactly who I’m thinking of, she was the first … and probably the last. I don’t hold with using real people generally. Far too risky!
So… back to The Summer We Loved, I think I can remember that. The Summer We Loved grew out of the story of By My Side. The book wrote itself in about 3 months - amazing for a woman used to taking best part of a year! It was easier to write. I knew the locations having got to grips with them in the last story. I knew a lot of the characters and their stories, but it became more complex as time went on. That’s the trouble with flashback novels.
Next time, if I remember to show up, I’m going to introduce a new thread on here, which I’m very excited about. So keep tuned and don’t go to sleep or you’ll forget and there’s nothing more irritating than…
